"We shall overcome. We shall overcome. We shall overcome someday." The great words of Rev Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. If you could only see what is going on in today’s world. Since you left us Dr. King, the world has been in such turmoil, and we have been fighting to overcome since you left us. We have made some strides, but I tell you, it has not been easy. There have been movements such as Black Life Matter, Gay Marriage, Equal Opportunity, the Me-Too movement and so much more. We lost great leaders, Senator John Lewis, Senator Elijah Cummings, Senator John McCain, and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg just to name a few. We have leaders rising to the ranks, Civil Rights Activist Stacey Abrams, who turned Georgia blue for the first time in its History leaving Democrats in charge of the Senate. With the help of the Black Mayor of Atlanta, Keisha Lance Bottoms, we have voted in our first African American Vice President of the United States, we have a sitting President who has been impeached twice in the same year, and our great capitol was attacked by a mob of Americans who tried overturn our democracy instigated by our President of the United States. Rev Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I am so sorry I must report all of this to you, but this is our current truth. What you stood and fought for however, is not in vain. We are still fighting for our rights, freedoms, and civil liberties. We have come a long way I must say, but much more is needed to end the disparities, racism, poverty, and human suffering. We have been wearing face masks since early 2019 because of a global pandemic and will have to wear them well into 2022. I don’t want to get political, but we could have been head of this drama if people were aware of how dangerous this pandemic was. It is called COVID 19, aka the Corona Virus because it is a virus that was started in China as per the scientist. Dr. King, it has been a roller coaster of a world, but we are striving to be better. We now will have a new President, and Vice President who will build our country back better and recover from the last four years that has been a total mess. I pray that our world will see some semblance of what was considered normal. Dr. King we have not yet reached the mountain top, but we have faith in God and in God we trust. I could go and on but it’s your day and I want to ensure that I honor you and let you know; I thank you for the fight. We are trying to let freedom ring, but there are those who are determined to deny us that freedom. We shall overcome.
